Hey creators! As you likely know, YouTube relies on a combination of machine learning and human input to decide what content complies with our advertiser-friendly guidelines and what doesn't. In other words, it determines whether your content may receive a yellow dollar sign icon (limited ads) or a green dollar sign icon (fully monetizable). Sometimes, automated systems can make mistakes, which we understand can be frustrating.

I'm Tim and in this post we will talk about a new program we are testing with some creators called selfcertification.

This program allows you to tell us which of your videos comply with our advertiser friendly guidelines and which ones don't.

We then use your input to help decide what ads to run on your videos.

The goal is to reduce errors from our automated reviews and help your videos get monetized more accurately right from the start.

Let is walk through how this works

If you know your content complies with our advertiser-friendly guidelines the process is actually pretty simple.

Once you have turned monetization on select None of the above.

If you are not familiar with our advertiser-friendly guidelines click the link in the description.

On the other hand if you know your content doesn't comply rate your video accordingly.

You should see that your video will receive limited ads or a yellow icon.

We understand that it might feel strange to tell us that your video isn't suitable for all advertisers. However when you accurately rate your content it lets us know that we can start to trust your ratings for future uploads, and we won't have to rely solely on our automated systems. If you're unsure how to rate your video, upload it as unlisted and err on the side of caution by selecting the next option down. After that, request a manual review, and our human raters will give you a final decision before it goes out to all your viewers.

Once you have confirmation, you can either publish your video or go back and make edits and upload a new version. Additionally, note that when you receive a final decision from a human rater, they'll leave some notes explaining why that decision was made. These notes will help you understand the choice for future reference.

Now, what happens if you don't rate your content accurately? If you're unable to identify your content accurately, we default back to using our automated systems. However, please be aware that repeatedly misrepresenting your content can lead to your channel being reviewed for inclusion in the YouTube Partner Program.

When you consistently rate your content accurately it know that we can trust your ratings for future uploads rather than relying solely on our automated systems.

Now that you understand what this program is about and how it works here are a few extra tips:

Review YouTube's advertiser-friendly guidelines and examples. You can find more details in the Help Center article linked in the description below.Enable monetization regardless of how you rate your video. Why? Because even if you mark your video as mature, there may still be advertisers willing to show their ads on it. Additionally, you can earn revenue from YouTube Premium.Be accurate with your ratings, especially for videos that are not advertiser-friendly. It's crucial that you accurately identify content that may receive yellow icons. If you're unable to identify yellow icons yourself, we'll need to continue using our automated systems to do so.

We hope this program will help reduce errors with our automated systems and, ultimately help you earn more revenue overall.
